One fact about myself that I have not mentioned in this blog so far is that I love Barbie. Yes the doll. I love her. The first doll my parents ever gave me was a blonde curly haired one which was quite rare to find in those days. I am going back to the early 90s, 1994 maybe. She had a small button on her chest and she could talk! Well, she said one friendship sentence but I was mesmerised by her. For me she was not only a doll, she was an icon, a beautiful, fashionable creature that inspired me. My love for Barbie grew and grew as the years went by and I know have a small collection of dolls which I greatly treasure.
Another big passion of mine is learning and discovering different countries, cultures and ethnic groups. Have you ever seen the Barbie Dolls of the World collections? Oh these dolls are so beautiful. Many countries and cultures are represented in these collections. Below are pictures of some of my favourite ones. Even if you are not a fan of this iconic doll, you have to admit; these dolls are gorgeous.

All images were taken from the Barbie Collector website.
One is more beautiful than the other. I used to play with Barbies as a child and these photo bring back good memories.
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! I loved Barbie dolls, I had so many when I was younger and they were my favourite thing to play with xx
ReplyDeleteMe too!! I absolutely love Barbie! Me and my cousin used to spend literally hours lost in our rooms playing barbie - we had TONS. We always got really involved in our pretending and every time we'd play it was a different "episode" with different situations occurring in barbie world (we liked lots of drama and comedy to occur, haha). What I wouldn't give to be that age again and be able to play without a care in the world. These dolls are beautiful- my favorites would be the Russian, Irish and the India one.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I was laughing so hard that you thought I meant that I like the smell of feet!! When I read it back, it DID sound like that's what I meant. Haha, but no, I meant I like the smell of my dog's feet! I changed it now so hopefully it'll make a little more sense! :P
Hi Martha, I absolutely love this post! I am a huge Barbie fan too and used to collect some when I was little, I had no idea about these cultural dolls. Loved the Russian, Hawaiian, Japanese and Indonesian Barbies, so cute!
ReplyDeleteI had a barbie doll when young I simply adored - it had a heart-shaped necklace to press so that the doll would speak - I used to play dress up games :) they are all fantastic but I'm fascinated by the Indian one - second favourite the Indonesian one.
